Trumpet Course Beginner-Intermediate VHS
Clark Terry - musician, singer, band leader, teacher - has been at the top of the jazz field for decades. He has been a featured musician with Dizzy Gillespie, Quincy Jones and Duke Ellington, a soloist and leading personality for Skitch Henderson's NBC Tonight Show orchestra, and has lead his own band. This course is a video class specifically designed as an introduction to the study of the instrument which actually results in the student being able to play the trumpet. The course begins with an introduction to the trumpet and its accessories and includes demonstrations on the usage of the various types of mutes available. Clark then explains the proper care and maintenance of the instrument. Next, the student is given a basic course in music theory with emphasis on its application to actual performance. This is followed by important explanations and demonstrations on the critical aspects of trumpet playing which include: tonguing, slurring, wind production and embouchure. Then, Clark presents warm-up techniques for the beginner utilizing simple intervals, harmonics and scales. At this point in the course the student is playing along and sight-reading music on the video screen. The class concludes with the student playing a song to the accompaniment of the famous bass player Major Holly. This is a perfect introduction to the study of this fascinating instrument.
